Some people prefer to work for themselves or own a business. Others prefer to work for an employer. Compare and contrast these two options and decide which you prefer and why. Provide specific reasons and examples to support your view.

In considering whether working as an employee or as one’s own boss is preferable, several factors need to be taken into consideration: working hours, money, motivation, welfare, risk, job security, psychological problems and responsibility. All the issues have to be assuming thorough when person want choose a better way to work.

People has to accept a regular working life, for the person who working as an employee have a steady payment and same working hours all the years. However, an employer can set down their own working hour. It seems that is better to be an employer, but they are always anxious about their revenue, this is what an employee will not care about a lot. Another issue is motivation, it probability relative to their income, for an employee, payment can extremely affect their emotion to do their work. If they have no satisfied pay back in financial, they will hardly have motivation to work. However, if you are the boss, you afraid that your employees have no motivation to work, so you give them a high payment, after a period they possibly will become discontented and lazy again. This really made most employers be perplexed.

Another serious problem is risk when being an employer. As everybody known, running one’s business is obviously taking a risk either in financial aspect or in other security facet. For an individual business, it had to take lot of money when it establish at first, there is a possibility that the boss can return of investment after a period, but they may also return nothing at last. Second problem is job security; on the one hand, employees are attracted to and will stay with organizations where they feel they will have a job if they do good work. (Report supplied by Bavendam Research
www.bavendam.com)On the other hand, there is a lack of job security for the employer who running their own business. By the way, there is another severe thing about risk is health care and social welfare. It provides assistance and support to individuals or their families who find themselves in financial difficulty due to death, illness or injury, or a reduction in income. Another example is the employees’ pension system; it is a pension system for company employees. While the main purpose of this system is to provide security for employees in their old age.
Psychological problems seem like that just having a little relationship between being an employer or an employee. But around us, there are really some examples, for instance, person commit suicide because of failure on business, people get melancholia due to the dilemma of business and so on. Working stress can be also caused by other factors like increasing demands, less freedom to control one’s work, insufficient capacity to cope with time pressures, etc. An Integra Survey similarly reported that:
65% of workers said that workplace stress had caused difficulties and more than 10 percent described these as having major effects.
(The American Institute of Stress is a non-profit 501(c) 3 corporation established in 1979
pursuant to section 405 of the New York State Not-For-Profit Corporation Law.) The instance above can evidently show us that being an employee has lot of pressure during their working time, but thinking of the employer, they are also having stress all the days. But they can dispense pressure to employees by setting many rules to press employees achieve a satisfactory workload.
Employer has to be responsible; we can see that form some detail thing like: employers have to provide a workplace free from serious recognized hazards and comply with standards, rules and regulations issued under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 (OSHA-Employer Responsibilities Washington, DC 20210). Responsibility of an employer might be considered heavier then it of an employee, for the reason that we can see lot of employee just takes a little responsibility and to their work, but for an employer, them have to be responsible for their own business and also be responsible for their staffs and all of their decision.

For all the compares above, I prefer be an employee rather than do my own business. I don’t like take such a risk in my life. My mother had running business before, but now she is an employee. She said that doing own business was really difficult, and hardly to be success. Although there are little exciting thing during her running own business, now she looks back, she prefer to be an employee as well. For me, to be an employee is absolutely a better choose. Maybe the repeated life is easy be bored but the risk of being a boss I can’t accept. In conclusion I think all of us have a different character, some people like peaceful and regular life but someone like exciting. To be an employee of an employer is their own choose.
