[font=Times New Roman]We can see there is a big difference in the number of male and female in several occupations today, so whether it is appropriate to have the same numbers of male and female students be admitted into the university in every subject is a debatable issue. I hold a strong belief that it is not necessary to pursue the goal of equal number.[/font]

[font=Times New Roman]Although there is no evidence that male students have superior intelligence than female student, or vice versa, we have to admit that the gender is a key factor that determines the performance in certain fields or subjects. For example, men are better at dealing with technical problems and more theoretical knowledge, such as maths, physics. They are more likely to work out challenging problems related to these fields. The gender ratio of mathematician in history and at present also justify the belief that men are more suitable to this kind of subjects. Similarly, female are undoubtedly fit for nursing mentally and physically. They are careful with flexible fingers and prone to observe the feelings of the patient which is the essential ability for a nurse. Therefore male and female have their own advantage in several subjects, why don’t the university accepts student according to their actual advantage? Based on this argument, why bother to make the number equal since it is against the natural characteristic of female and male?[/font]

[font=Times New Roman]Furthermore, if the university insists on having gender balance in every subjects, there would be
unsatisfactory results. Firstly, the unsuitable people may find themselves falling behind students of opposite genders; thus, they are likely to lose confidence and learning initiatives. Secondly, although they can handle the academic problems well, they have to face difficulties when they are hunting for a job. Some employers are inclined to select the most suitable gender, not the best students, considering the past performance and traditional conception. Thirdly, accepting equal numbers of different gender means refusing other suitable and eager students. It’s unfair to reject female students in nursing just in order to gain gender equality in university.[/font]

[font=Times New Roman]All in all, the practice of accepting the same proportions of different gender in every subject is pointless method. I strongly believed that in order to make good use of advantage of different gender ,university should set the student number in different gender according to their average performance instead of specifically equal proportion.[/font]
