OK, I’d like to talk something about Ms Deng Yaping, the famous female table tennis player in the world. She was born in 1973 in Henan Province of China. Her athletic skills and level are very high, although she is not very tall and strong in the teams. By now she has beaten hundreds of the best table tennis players in the world and gained the countless honors. As far as I know, she got more than four gold medals in the Olympic Games and kept the first rank among the list of the world-class table tennis players for 8 years. <o:p></o:p>

When she left the sports field in 1997, she began to study English language in Cambridge University and Qinghua University, and got the master degree. Now she speaks English fluently. Besides, she succeeded in running a company of making and selling sports clothes and shoes. She is very wise and uses her fame and talent to establish herself in the business. She is also a good businesswoman in china.<o:p></o:p>

I adore her very much for three reasons. Firstly, she is industrious and aspirant. She had much intensive training so as to conquer her physical limitations and finally she made great achievements in sports and added the honor to our nation; Secondly, she has a receptive mind. She always keeps smiling in spite of quite tense games. I like her smiling face; the last but not the least, she can know her shortcomings and study hard in the university and get the master degree at last.

I like all kinds of sports. And I like playing basketball most. The game is very popular in the world, because it is very healthy for a young person like me. I believe it can practice my flexibility of muscles and speed of reaction. (I believe it can make me stay fit and train me to have a quick response.) Every time I am playing basketball outdoors, I can breathe lots of fresh air and feel quite vigorous. Then I study more efficiently. Furthermore, playing basketball is a team game, so I learn cooperative and competitive spirit from it.

Do people around you like sports? /Do the people in your city like sports? What sports do they like?<o:p></o:p>

Yes, most people like sports, because sports are of great benefit to the people.<o:p></o:p>

There are varieties of sports they like. Allow me to mention a few examples. Basketball and football is played mainly by the younger generation. All age groups play table tennis, better known as ping-pong. It needs less facilities and small space, so it very suits for all kinds of people in this developing country. Chinese people play the so-called small-ball games like ping-pong and badminton well because of their relatively small physique. Swimming, skating, and playing volleyball are popular as well.

What can we get from sports? /What are the benefits from sports?<o:p></o:p>

First, sports can shape people’s body and get rid of redundant fat. People can reinforce their health and train a strong will in sports game, just as the famous words on the Olympic Mountain:” If you want to be healthy, please do running ”. Second, everyone can practice his or her flexibility and speed of reaction. And many sports can teach people consideration, cooperation, self-confidence, judgment and optimism towards failure, which are very important for one’s life. Third, people are able to get friendship from competition. “Friendship first, competition second.”

Do you think cooperation is important?<o:p></o:p>

Yes. Cooperation is quite important in modern society. With the rapid development of science and technology, the knowledge is updated at an amazing rate. An individual can’t have all of the knowledge and the ability of an individual is limited. Cooperation makes everyone inspirit each other and learn from others' strong points to offset one's weakness, just as adding wings to a tiger. If you want to get a great achievement, you must cooperate with others.<o:p></o:p>

Do you think winning is important?<o:p></o:p>

Winning is very important but not the most importance. In most time, friendship is the first and success is the second. However, some contests contain the honor of the nation. Every competitor should try one’s best to win. But any player should get the winning under the justice and should not do harm to other players in order to get a high rank.

What is your opinion on the international sports events? Should the government support large sports events? Why?<o:p></o:p>

In my opinion, those events can promote friendship and clear up prejudice between nations. They can create opportunities for people from different countries and social systems to get together on an equal basis, therefore helping to enhance mutual understanding. The Sino-US ping-pong diplomacy is a vivid illustration. The ping-pong matches played an all-important role in breaking the ice and eventually leading to the normalization of China and the United States.<o:p></o:p>

Also, the international sports events stimulate the globalization and give the world business more chance such as tourism, advertisement, TV broadcast and so on. For instance, it is estimated that Beijing would get a high income more than 2 billion Yuan in the coming Olympics Game in 2008. <o:p></o:p>

What’s your opinion on big companies, tobacco companies in particular, to support such events?<o:p></o:p>

I don’t think it is improper for big companies to support such events. The large sports events give everyone different chances. The business is no exception. Supporting such events can enlarge companies’ influence and propagandize their products, which are one of the most important good effects brought by sports game. Nonetheless, tobacco is bad for one’s health. Consequently, as for tobacco companies, they should be restricted in advertising so as not to encourage people to smoke.

Do you think it is rational that sportsmen get high salary?<o:p></o:p>

Many athletes began to have very hard trainings in the childhood. Admittedly, it is justified that some sportsmen become very rich, because they acquire their wealth through their hard work and intelligence. They deserve it. But they should never be solely bent on profit. Otherwise they will bring disgrace on their profession and their character.

Can sports stars earn money through commercial advertising?<o:p></o:p>

The sports stars got success and fame through their efforts. Then they used their fame and earned money through commercial advertising. That is beyond reproach. The advertisements can popularize new products and introduce new technology, which give people everywhere the maximum choice of products. Also, the advertisements can make the sports stars more well-known in the world. However, the advertisements of the sports stars must be truthful and can’t mislead consumers.<o:p></o:p>

What are differences of view on sports between men and women?<o:p></o:p>

First, most men and women all like sports, but sometimes men are more active than women. Second, there are few sports in which woman do not participate these days. However, because of the striking physiological differences between male and female, the athletic skills and level of men is higher than that of women.

Can you have a talk about the advantages and disadvantages of Beijing’s holding 2008 Olympic Games?

Holding 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing has many advantages. First, it represents a chance for the city to build more facilities and recreational things. The government will allocate more funds on the construction of infrastructure, such as roads, parks, gymnasiums and so on. And the city will be more beautiful. Second, it will allure more tourists from different parts of the world, which can promote their understanding to China, and then contribute a lot to mutual communication and cooperation. Third, it will boost local economy and promote commercial exchanges. And it will provide more jobs for many people and help solve or ease the social problems of unemployment.<o:p></o:p>

However, “No garden without its weeds.” It has its disadvantages, too. One of the most obvious negative effects is that too many tourists will do great harm to the tranquility and sanitation of the city, and even cause pollution to the natural environment and even destroy some natural resources and scenery. Moreover, it maybe tends to attract more crime because lots of criminals coming in try to rob or cheat tourists.<o:p></o:p>

On the whole, the advantages of Beijing’s holding 2008 Olympic Games far outweigh than the disadvantages of it.

Describe your best friend How you knew/met each other? How you became friends? How long you have known each other? How do you spend time together? His/her biggest help to you. Explain why he/she is your best friend. 

I have many good friends, and my best friend is called Liang Guifeng. She is a pretty and gentle girl with beady eyes. I met her about five years ago in the class that we attended together. Though we didn’t know each other before, we nearly have the same interest and dream. At that time, the study pressure was quite heavy. We all hoped to pass the National College Entrance Test and enter the university. She is very diligent and we all studied hard. I was good at Math (Chinese) while she did well in English. We helped each other and finally we all got good scores in the examination. In fact, she really gave me a great help to me with my study. Our friendship has grown a great deal over the past five years. We study and play together. We often talk much about our dream, life and love. (Sometimes we have some whispers in bed until late at night.) We share all our happiness, sadness and secrets with each other. If I have some difficulty, she is sure to help me as best as she can immediately. (I look like a little girl while she cares me like my elder sister.) Certainly, if she needs help, I will support her without hesitation. Also, she is very warm-hearted. She is kind to everyone, especially her family and friends, and is always willing to listen to others. In our spare time, we often drink coffee in a coffee shop, listening to our favorite music, and agreeably chat a lot. Sometimes we speak English together. Also, the stadium is one of the main places we often visit. We play basketball, volleyball, and badminton there. We both believe friendship give us much value.<o:p></o:p>

I guess the main reason why Guifeng and I became best friends, is that we have a lot in common, for instance, we have the same interests and dreams. Besides, the similar education background and personal characters provide us lots of conversation topics. We can find some common views whatever we talk about. Another reason is that we don’t feel we ever have to pretend around each other. Furthermore, she helps me a lot with my English study.

What is the difference in requirements for making friends between in your childhood and now? 

Oh, it is quite different. Children may regard one as his or her friend if he or she can simply play with them and whoever treats them well. If the friend quarrels with them, they will just say, “I don’t want to play with you any more. You are not my friend.” For adults, things are more complex. Adults emphasize the mutual support and understanding. They can forgive and accept friends’ errors and help them out. However, children pay less attention to the status and backgrounds of their friends while adults may consider more about the material values, such as “whether the friend is helpful in my career?” etc. That is why our best friends are usually our childhood friends or school friends, because we didn’t start from the material benefits. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

Is it an easy thing to make friends now? <o:p></o:p>

I don’t think making friends is an easy thing now, I mean true friends, maybe due to the pace of life and competition in society. In modern society, I find that people are more and more difficult to trust others. Too many conflicts of interest congest the gap among each other. Making a close friend in the same company is almost impossible. On the other hand, I think it easier to have a large circle of acquaintances, common friends. There are usually several ways to make friends. You can make friends with your colleagues, and classmates by working or studying or growing together, possibly by eating or sharing some hobbies together. And now making friends on the Internet is one of the most popular ways to make friends.<o:p></o:p>

How to change such situation? 

It is hard to say. I think the cultivation of common trust is quite urgent. Only everyone did not doubt others’ intention of kindness any more, can we trust people nearby more easily and then make friends with them. <o:p></o:p>

What kind of people do you like to make friends?

I hope he or she is enterprising, optimistic, generous, and warmhearted. And his or her honesty and credit are the most important things. Also, we should have the same interests.<o:p></o:p>

What are the advantages and disadvantages do you think making friends on the Internet? 

I believe Internet is a popular way to make friends. In fact, one of the main functions of Internet is enlarging people’s communication. Making friends on the Internet is much easier and freer. You just need to enter some website, hit a button, enter a chat room, choose someone to talk to, and finally you can decide whether you want to be a friend of him or her. Later you may contact each other through phone calls or even meet in the real life. There are no national boundaries, language barriers, gender concerns and age differences. Thus I think it is a good way to find and make friends. However, young people, especially children, must be more alert about net-friends. It was reported that many cheats were committing crime through Internet and some innocent young people became the victims.<o:p></o:p>

What does the friendship mean to you? / Can you live without friendship?

I consider friendship to be one of the most important things in life, whatever your status, married or single. A lot of us get so involved with material values that we forget the real meaning of friendship. I believe “ A friend in need is a friend indeed.” Is true. A true friend should be able to share your happy moments without feeling jealous. A good friendship is one where you can accept and forgive faults and understand moods. We should learn to accept our friends for what they are. Moreover, friends should not be persons with whom you kill time. Real friendship, in my opinion, is a “ spiritually developing experience”.<o:p></o:p>

What are the possible factors that cause friends to break up?<o:p></o:p>

Maybe personality, disagreement on certain issues, different values, lack of communication, family interference, growth or changes of the former friends, all of these will cause friends to break up.<o:p></o:p>

Let me think, maybe the recent success of china is the construction of Three Gorges Dam. This is one of the greatest water conservancy projects in the world. It is well-known that Changjiang River is the largest and longest river in China. Due to the special geographic environment, this river floods frequently. Nearly every year, hundreds and thousands of people suffered with terrible flood, and the flood also made our country lose hundreds billion Yuan. It is the great waste of nation’s resource. Consequently, the government decided to build the huge dam at the famous Three Gorge, so as to regulate this terrible river. This Dam cuts off the Changjiang River and then raises its forepart water level more than 100 meters additional height. This project lasted nearly 10 years and millions of residents in Three Gorge districts must migrate to other places. The Three Gorge dam project is a miracle in the world.<o:p></o:p>

Benefit of this project:<o:p></o:p>

Firstly, regulate the water of the river. It can conserve the water during the raining season. Secondly, generate electricity. It is also a huge waterpower plant.<o:p></o:p>

About SARS:<o:p></o:p>

Let me think, maybe the recent success of china is the fight against SARS in our country. The terrible infectious disease attacked our country this year. Thousands of people died in this tragedy. However, the devil has been efficiently controlled and successfully demolished by Chinese people.<o:p></o:p>

This disease was first originated from Guangdong Province and then spread to HongKong, Beijing and lots of other cities. Fortunately, the central government soon realized its ponderance and quickly took many effective measures to prevent its prevalence. To begin with, the detailed daily reports about caseload and the state of illness in different cities were required and any mendacity will be punished severely. Next, some special hospitals had been isolated for the treatment of these kind patients in order to reduce the cross infection. Last but not least, many extreme methods had been taken so as to reduce the infection, including sterilizing all the vehicles everyday, checking guests’ body temperatures in public places, prohibiting spitting on the public. Any people who had a close contact with SARS patients, even with a doubtful case, must be isolated for some time until he or she could be proved not being affected. Although many measures seemed too strict, all the Chinese people supported them. We all drew together to fight against SARS and then got the final success. It also proves that China is a great nation with greatest people in the world.<o:p></o:p>

I believe the SARS affects the tourism greatly. Because SARS is a kind of terrible infectious disease, people are infected more easily in public places. So most of people fear to go outside, especially in the infected areas. It is undoubtedly a great hit to the tourism.<o:p></o:p>

I believe the greatest influence for me is the postponement of IELTS test because of SARS. I had to put off my exam until August. And my schedule had been changed 51ieltslly.<o:p></o:p>

As the old saying goes: ”Every coin has its two sides.” The SARS gives us no less than the loss. Both government and individuals could attain useful illuminations from this tragedy. First, our unhealthy life styles should be changed. Second, the government should allocate more funds on public medical treatment system, especially in those undeveloped fields. Third, the countrywide effective disease prevention and cure system is required. To some extent, I think the tragedy can help us to find and solve more problems once neglected.<o:p></o:p>

I think the four seasons in China are quite different in different regions of china. In Guangdong, the south of china, the four seasons are not quite distinct. Generally speaking, the spring comes since February, just after the traditional Spring Festival. It lasts about 3 months. In this season, the temperature ranges between 10 and 25 Centigrade. It drizzles a lot so that the weather is very humid. It is time to sow and plough. The vigorous young plants grow fast. It is a bright season. The summer begins at May, which is maybe the terrible weather, because it is too hot. The temperature would climb to 40 centigrade. The lowest temperature is also above 25 centigrade. It is very uncomfortable all day unless you have air conditioning. Swimming is the most popular sports in this season. After 4 months hot days, the autumn comes in September. This season is quite beautiful and has a little cool. I like it very much. It is the golden time of the year; that is to say, it is the crown of the year. People are always busy with their harvest in autumn. Then usually the winter begins in the middle of November. Although the temperature is always above the zero centigrade in winter, there are strong winds and cold rains, making people feel cold. People like to have a hot pot at home in this season. In north of china, it snows in winter and temperature would below the zero centigrade. Moreover, the period of spring or winter is usually longer than that of in south. Also, it is very dry for the lack of rain. In contrast, the south is humid in 4 seasons.<o:p></o:p>

I like autumn best. It is very comfortable------not windy, not cold, not hot, not humid. When I study in the university, I can see that the falling leaves are flying on the sky and then covering on the road, which turns the dark road into a golden color. It is very impressive and I like it very much. Also, after the hot summer, I feel very comfortable in this cool season.<o:p></o:p>

With the alternation of seasons, are there any changes in wearing clothes?<o:p></o:p>

Yes. People usually dress warm clothes in winter, such as down garments, furs, and even wear scarves. Between seasons wear is certainly the clothes in spring or autumn. And shirts and sweaters are also people’s common clothes in these two seasons. In summer, men like to wear T-shirts and shorts. And women like to wear various beautiful skirts such as miniskirts, one-piece dresses, suspender skirts and so on. The colors of clothes are also different in different seasons. Usually people wear in dark in cold seasons and wear in light in warm or hot days.<o:p></o:p>

What differences are there in architectural style between north and south considering the differences in season and climate?<o:p></o:p>

Generally, the buildings in north have a center-heating system and the windows and walls are made through warm-proof technology. However, the houses in south consider much about the waterproofness just because of the frequent rain.<o:p></o:p>

Let me tell you about a famous park in my city, called HaiBin Park. That means Beach Park, because it is next to the sea. HaiBin Park is not more than five miles far away from the center of the city. It is only 20 minutes way from my home by bicycle. So I often go to the big park to relax or exercise. <o:p></o:p>

There are quite a lot of plants in this park, the beautiful flowers, the vast meadows and plenty of palm trees. Besides, there is a big square in the center of the park and many parties and shows are held in it. The most special is that there is a long corridor along the sea and you can appreciate the seascape in the park. In the morning, it is very peaceful. You can see many old people are doing exercise and children are running around. The young people are swimming and playing wind-surfing board in the sea. In addition, some people are sunbathing on the beach. When the night is coming, you can see many lovers are chatting under the trees, sitting on the meadows or walking along the corridor. Also, it is an attractive place for children, just because there is lots of fantastic game equipment, such as dodgems, rock climbing, tennis playground and so on. Are gardens important for a society? /What are the effect of parks on people’s life?<o:p></o:p>

I think park or garden is an important part of life for modern people. Due to the quickening living pace, modern people are always in tense spirits and may experience stress every day. The park or garden can help relieve work or study pressure and refresh one’s mind. We can share some happiness among the beautiful flowers and grass. Being provided much green color, we will feel comfortable. Sometimes we can have a good time in the park with our family and friends. Furthermore, the garden can beautify our environment.<o:p></o:p>

How many Chinese have their own gardens?<o:p></o:p>

Quite rare, I think. China is an overpopulated country, and the lands for living are very inadequate. Besides, China is still a developing country. The people are not wealthy enough and many people in the countryside are poor. Thus only quite rich people can have place to run their own gardens. I know in western countries nearly every family has their private gardens. I hope it will become popular in our country in the future.<o:p></o:p>

If you will have a garden in the future, what plant you will like to grow, and why?<o:p></o:p>

Mum, …I think I will grow many different flowers and vegetables in my private garden, such as lily, rose, tulip, lavender and so on. Because I love flowers very much, those colorful things can relax me and make me feel happy. Besides, I will make neat paths and build a wooden bridge over a pool. That is more interesting.

Where did you often play during your childhood?<o:p></o:p>

When I was a child, my parents and I lived in a big yard with a small beautiful garden. There are some pavilions, fountains, and an artificial bourn in this garden. I often play with other children in the garden. We played the games “hide and seek”, “the eagle preys on the chicken” etc. Besides, an interesting thing for us is watching ants’ action. We watched how ants fought with other worms and how they transmitted their foods. If we found plenty of ants moved from one place to another, we knew the rain was coming. 

What are the common utilities of the ordinary garden in your areas?<o:p></o:p>

Generally speaking, park or garden is a good place for people to unwind. Usually, there are some chairs, tables and pavilions in the garden. Most of them are made of stones. People can have a rest and chat there. In some bigger gardens, the exercise equipments are available, such as running machine, barbell, flying rings, and horizontal bar. People can do exercise or relax in the beautiful scene and fresh air.

How you grow a plant, give some ideas?<o:p></o:p>

It is quite a difficult problem, because I know little about gardening. In the first place, I guess proper irrigation is necessary for the plants growth, and we should not provide too much or too little water to plants. In the second place, fertilization is also important. In the last place, we should often get rid of insects to protect plants. I am afraid that is all I know about it.

It’s an interesting topic. I would like to tell you that the most impressive trip is my traveling to Beijing with my good friends 8 years ago. It is my first trip in my life, so I felt quite exciting. In summer holiday, my friends and I started from my hometown------Zhanjiang by train, and then it took us two days to get to Beijing. While on the train, we chatted, had jokes, told stories and played card games together. Also, the guide was very easygoing. So we all enjoyed the period on the train.<o:p></o:p>

On arriving in Beijing in the morning, the guide led us to watch the ceremonial of raising national flag. The martial honor guard and the royal scene gave me unforgettable impression. Because our trip lasted only one week, we visited two or three places everyday. There are lots of famous tourist attractions in Beijing, the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, Tian’anmen Square, Temple of Heaven, the YongZheng Temple, the Summer Palace and so on. These places all have much historic significance. I was shaken deeply by the rich cultural treasures in China. There are not only many old-timey buildings but also more modern buildings in Beijing. It is the center of culture and politics in our country. And People in Beijing are very polite and warm-hearted.<o:p></o:p>

The most interesting thing in this trip is that I took some photos with some foreigners in different scenic spots. Also, I made friends with them. I hardly saw a foreigner in my hometown before. At that time, I felt that foreigners were all kind very much whatever pretty girls or old men. In my album, a photo taken on the top of the Great Wall can show it. You can see a British old lady and I were standing on the top of the Great Wall with smile.
