An international panel invited by Sri Lanka to monitoring investigation into human rights abuses is leaving the country because it says the government is hindering its work. The panel also said the work of local investigators didn't meet even basic international standards. From Colombo here's Roland Berg.

International concern about human rights abuses in Sri Lanka has grown as the government and Tamil Tigers have returned to full-scale civil war. Now the International Independent Group of Eminent Persons (IIGEP) has decided to *to the island saying the government is not serious about investigating cases. In a statement in response to the group concerns, the Attorney General's Department said the panel was catering to an international agenda that their ture attention was to ensure the condemn nation of Sri Lanka.
