Title: Many people think that work nowadays is more stressful and less leisurely than in the past. What is your opinion?
It is a pathetic fact that nowadays the overloaded work is gradually pushing modern people to the edge of burnout. People tend to describe their work as more stressful and less leisurely. This is a serious social problem, I suppose, on which one may ponder, even with the help of all the advanced tools such as computer, why we turn out even more exhausted by our work.
First of all, the competition in the every company is getting stiffer and fiercer, which may inevitably force the employers to work harder in order to satisfy their boss, or to preserve their position, or, say the very least, to get rid of the risk of being laid off. What makes the condition even worse is that, they may also face the challenge from the newly graduates, whose number is dramatically increasing nowadays. It is quite understandable people tend to involve themselves in intensely hard work.
Secondly, the rapid development of science and technology may help us to finish our work more quickly, but at the same time it also results in more challenging and complicated tasks, which demand people to master more and more professional techniques and skills, such as computer science, driving skills, even language skills. Consequently, people may end up to spend more time in learning all this new skills, which eventually will take up their once leisure time.
The overloaded work may bring about many negative impacts to workers, among which could be physical symptoms. According to one of the recent research concerning the health condition of workers, it has found out that the exhaustion from work may interrupt one’s sleep, i.e. one may end up too tired to sleep. The lack of sleep is one of the factors which may trigger the workers’ burnout.
In my opinion, I suggest maybe we should try to find a job which we may really enjoy in the first place, where it is possible for us to get pleasure and relax even when we are working.
