Nature and nurture, which plays major role in personality and development?
Talking of one’s personality and development, I maintain that nurture has major impact on them other than nature.
Nature is always, to some extent, considered as a gift or invariable quality which is given to one as he was born. Things are divided into different categories by their natures, like apples and oranges, it’s difficult for one to confuse them.
Interestingly, unlike the literal meaning of the famous “apples and oranges” saying, a person differs from others for an unique personality which may change with one’s growing up.
In other words, depending on factors such as affections from parents, education background, experience, self-striving and so forth as well as nature, a personality is surely the result of long-time nurture, on purpose or not sometimes. Therefore, it’s changeable and moldable. Moreover, since personalities very much decide people’s activities, they do effect their development as well. So, nurture is of great significance not only in personality but also in one’s development.
For example, American People is a mixed nationality with people from all over the world, who possess very different natures. But through a great and powerful social system which encourages individualism, freedom and fair competitions, it now has been nurtured several common spirits, values and personalities shared by its people and develop itself into a powerful country known for its creativity, democracy and technology.
In conclusion, personality is molded by nurture, which by the way is very lucky for us because it’s possible for people to decide their directions of developments by forming good personalities.
