<P>　　With its textured guitars, U2's sound was undeniably indebted to post-punk, so it's slightly ironic that the band formed in 1976, before punk had reached their hometown of Dublin, Ireland. Larry Mullen Jr. posted a notice on a high-school bulletin board asking for fellow musicians to form a band. Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton, and Dick Evans responded to the ad, and the group formed as a Beatles and Stones cover band called the Feedback, before changing their name to the Hype in 1977. Shortly afterward, Dick Evans left the band to form the Virgin Prunes. Following his departure, the group changed its name to U2.</P>
<P>　　U2's first big break arrived in 1978, when they won a talent contest sponsored by Guinness; the band were in their final year of high school at the time. By the end of the year, the Stranglers' manager, Paul McGuinness, saw the band play and offered to manage them. Even with a powerful manager in their corner, the band had trouble making much headway -- they failed an audition with CBS Records at the end of the year. In the fall of 1979, U2 released their debut EP, U2 Three. The EP was available only in Ireland, and it topped the national charts. Shortly afterward, they began to play in England, but they failed to gain much attention.</P>
<P>　　Released in the spring of 1983, the Lillywhite-produced War was U2's breakthrough release, entering the U.K. charts at number one and elevating them into arenas in the United States, where the album peaked at number 12. War had a stronger political message than its predecessors, as evidenced by the U.K., college radio, and MTV hits "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "New Year's Day." During the supporting tour, the band filmed its concert at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheater, releasing the show as an EP and video titled Under a Blood Red Sky. The EP entered in the U.K. charts at number two, becoming the most successful live recording in British history. U2 had become one of the most popular bands in the world, and their righteous political stance soon became replicated by many other bands, providing the impetus for the Band Aid and Live Aid projects in 1984 and 1985, respectively.</P>
<P>　　For the follow-up to War, U2 entered the studios with co-producers Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, who helped give the resulting album an experimental, atmospheric tone. Released in the fall of 1984, The Unforgettable Fire replicated the chart status of War, entering the U.K. charts at number one and reaching number 12 in the U.S. The album also generated the group's first Top 40 hit in America with the Martin Luther King Jr. tribute "(Pride) In the Name of Love." U2 supported the album with a successful international tour, highlighted by a show-stealing performance at Live Aid. Following the tour, the band released the live EP Wide Awake in America in 1985.</P>
<P>　　While U2 had become one of the most successful rock bands of the '80s, they didn't truly become superstars until the spring 1987 release of The Joshua Tree. Greeted with enthusiastic reviews, many of which proclaimed the album a masterpiece, The Joshua Tree became the band's first American number one hit and its third straight album to enter the U.K. charts at number one; in England, it set a record by going platinum within 28 hours. Generating the U.S. number one hits "With or Without You" and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For," The Joshua Tree and the group's supporting tour became the biggest success of 1987, earning the group the cover of respected publications like Time magazine.</P>
<P>　　Unlike many of their contemporaries, U2 were able to sustain their popularity in the '90s by reinventing themselves as a postmodern, self-consciously ironic dance-inflected pop/rock act, owing equally to the experimentalism of late-'70s Bowie and '90s electronic dance and techno. By performing such a successful reinvention, the band confirmed its status as one of the most popular bands in rock history, in addition to earning additional critical respect.</P>

<P>　　1. 当第十季的采访篇即将结束的时候，这首walk on开始了，带给我们10年欢乐和感动的《六人行》就要落幕，真让人有些依依不舍，walk on这首歌很符合当时的心境。The only baggage that you can bring is all that you can't leave behind这句话表面上是说在收拾行李的时候，总有很多东西难以割舍，实际上这里说的是对于以前的怀念和回忆，也就是人们心里忘不掉，放不下的东西。这句话当中套用了两个定语从句，一个是The only baggage that you can bring，另一个是all that you can't leave behind，大家要分析清楚。</P>
<P>　　2. 虽然darkness这个词意思是“黑暗”，但是跟后面句子的daylight“日光”一比较，大家就知道这里darkness应该理解成“黑夜”。</P>
<P>　　3. It' a long way off，是说“距离很远，还有很远的路程”。off作为副词，可以用来表示“距，离，到”，比如说：The hospital is still five miles off. 医院还在5英里之外。这里的off可以用away来替换。off不仅可以指具体的路程，还可以指抽象的时间，比如：The holidays are not so far off. 假期已经不远了，马上就要放假了。off作为介词，表示“距某处还有一些距离”，例如：There is a big house off the high street. 离大街不远有一所大房子。The ship sank off Cape Horn. 轮船在离合恩角不远的地方沉没了。</P>
<P>　　4. something feels like 表示“某事感觉起来好像…”，比如说，It feels like rain. 感觉好像要下雨。This wallet feels to me like leather. 我觉得这钱包好像是皮的。但是feel like something/ feel like doing something却表示“想要(做)某事物”，例如：I feel like a drink. 我想要喝杯酒。We'll go out for a walk if you feel like it. 如果你愿意的话，我们就出去走走。</P>

<P>　　5. What you got, they can't steal it当中的it就是指what you got，那么把两句话合起来就是They can't steal what you got。</P>
<P>　　6. stay safe是指“不用担心别人会怎么想，停止心里面的煎熬”，那么我想这段歌词就是说“不要在意别人的想法，只要继续向前走自己的路就好了。”</P>
<P>　　7. You're packing a suitcase for a place，填补完整了就是You're packing a suitcase leaving for a place，leave for somewhere，意思是“准备离开某地到另一个地方去”。那么这个人到底要去哪里呢？后面就会有答案。</P>
<P>　　8. could have done something是指“本能够做某事，但是却因为某种原因没有做成”，是一种虚拟语气的形式，例如：You could have seen her if you had come early.如果你早来一点，你就能看见她了。我们以前还讲过should have done something，也是一种虚拟语气的形式，表示“本应该做某事，但是没有做”。从这段歌词我们就可以看出歌词的作者对自由的向往，把自己比做一只为寻找自由而冲出牢笼的鸟儿。</P>
<P>　　9. ache可以作动词表示“疼痛”，比如说，我们除了可以说“I have a headache.”之外，我们还可以说，My head aches. 或者My head is aching. 来表示“我头疼”。我们还可以用ache的比喻意义——悲伤，痛苦，比如：It makes my heart ache to see her suffer. 看见她受苦真让我心痛。歌词中就是用的这个比喻意义。还有，ache for sb/sth 或者 ache to do something表示“渴望得到某人某物，渴望做某事”，比如说，He was aching for home. 他特别想回家。I'm aching to see him again. 我渴望能再一次见到他。</P>
<P>　　10. how your heart it breaks按照正常的语序应该是how it breaks your heart. 我想这里的it 是指“无法忘记的，对过去的痛苦回忆”。take 这里指“承受”，以前我们也讲过很多遍了。</P>
<P>　　11. But I know I'm going这句话没有说完，应该是But I know I'm going home，也就是I know I'm on the way home。我在朝着家的方向前进。</P>
<P>　　12. leave sb/sth behind 表示“忘记带某人，某物，丢开”，比如，Don't leave me behind. 别把我丢下。 It won't rain; you can leave your umbrella behind. 不会下雨了，你不用带伞了。</P>
<P>　　13. fashion在这里作动词，表示“将某物做成某个形状，设计或制造某物”，比如，They fashion dolls from pieces of wood. 他们把木块做成玩具娃娃。</P>
<P>　　14. reason作动词表示“思考，推理，推断”，比如说，He reasoned that if we started at noon, we would be there by dawn. 他推断我们要是中午出发，黎明之前就可以到达。还有一个词组，reason with someone，“跟某人理论，争辩”，我们可以说，I reasoned with her for hours, but she would not change her mind. 我跟她理论了几个小时，她就是不听。There's no reasoning with that guy. 那个人简直是不可理喻。</P>
<P>　　15. dress something up这个词组表示“修饰，掩饰”，例如，The facts are quite clear, it's no use dressing them up. 事实已经很清楚了，想掩饰是没有用的。</P>
