<P>The tables show the number, reasons and destinations for travel abroad of 100,000 people between 1994 and 1998 in <ST1:COUNTRY-REGION><ST1:PLACE>UK</ST1:PLACE></ST1:COUNTRY-REGION>. <O:P></O:P></P><BR>
<P>As shown in the first table, that holiday was the main reason for people to travel abroad between 1994 and 1998 and the number of visitors , who traveled abroad for holiday, increased steadily, rising from 15,246 in 1994 to 20,700 in 1998, except a slight fall to 14,898 in 1995. Next came the visitors with the purpose of business, rising gradually from 3,155 in 1994 to 3,957 in 1998. The number of the people, who visited abroad for the reason of visits to friends and relatives, increased from 2,689 to 3,181 over the same period. Last came the number of people who traveled for other reasons, remaining approximately steady. According to the total number, the amount of visitors, who traveled abroad, rose from 22,072 to 18,828 between 1994 and 1998, except a slight drop in 1995.<O:P></O:P></P><BR>
<P>It is clear from the second table, that <ST1:PLACE>Western Europe</ST1:PLACE> remained the main destination between 1994 and 1998. While 19,371 people traveled to <ST1:PLACE>Western Europe</ST1:PLACE> in 1994, 24,591 people traveled there in 1998. Next came <ST1:PLACE>North America</ST1:PLACE> and other areas, with a rise by and respectively over the same period. It was the evidence of that <ST1:PLACE>Western Europe</ST1:PLACE> was the most favorable place for the people in <ST1:COUNTRY-REGION><ST1:PLACE>UK</ST1:PLACE></ST1:COUNTRY-REGION> to travel abroad. <O:P></O:P></P> |
