Nowadays, international tourism is the biggest industry in the world. Unfortunately, international tourism creates tension rather than understanding between people from different cultures. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
My writing
Nowadays, tourism industry is booming all over the world—developed countries are perfecting their tourism resources, and developing countries are exploring their tourism resources. When international tourism industry is developed in such a large scale, some problems are emerging. Causing international tension or promoting international understanding, which is weightier?
The people asserting that international tourism is more likely to cause tension supposed that the tourists from foreign countries may hardly understand the local culture properly, thus misbehave and annoy local people. Also, the over flowed tourists is a potential pressure to the local resources and environment.
However, we can’t deny the propelling power of tourism, towards the understanding of different cultures, and I believe that the above tension would rarely happen. For one thing, tourism is window to showcase a country’s identical and attractive landscape, as well as its culture. That’s why more open-minded governments are shifting their focus on the tourism industry. For another, tourism is the most direct and efficient way of accessing and even understanding an exotic culture. Without going to a foreign country, people would never know what exactly a foreign country is. More often than not, people are misled by the public media or rumors, regarding a foreign country as a mysterious kingdom. That is the example I experienced. Before I visited to England, I mistakenly supposed most westerners to be rude and less helpful, which is totally different from the real case. When I associated with the British, they gave me an impression of polite, warm hearted and accessible. The same case lies in the British people who haven’t been to china before. What they hear about china is totally different from the version told by us. Moreover, tourism can definitely furthers the mutual understanding and friendship between nations.
In conclusion, international tourism is one trend of globalization, it will definitely provide people with more accesses to understand other cultures and customs, and further the intergration of different nations.
