New MODL to Begin in October 2002
The Government has announced a reduction in the number of ICT specialisations listed on the Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL).

The updated list was jointly released on September 27 by the Minister for Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs, Philip Ruddock, and the Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, Tony Abbott.

The new MODL now lists five (down from 12) ICT specialisations identified as being in shortage in the Australian labour market.

This follows an earlier drop from 26 to 12 in April this year.

These reductions are a reaction to the softening of the ICT labour market and the increased difficulties some Australian computing professionals are experiencing in finding work.

The new MODL will take effect on the date of its gazettal, which will be published on this website.

The new MODL will be:

    Refrigeration and Airconditioning Mechanic 4312-11
    Hairdresser 4931-11

* Chefs would normally be expected to have a relevant trade level (or higher) qualification, and at least 3 years relevant experience following the completion of that formal qualification.
