A number of people think that watching TV would be good for children's development while others disagree.
What is your opinion?
There have been arguments that whether TV, as the most popular media in the world, is beneficial to children’s growth. A number of surveys have shown that watching TV plays a significant role in children’s development while others advocate the negative effects of watching TV. As to this matter, I believe what children can get from TV overweighs its disadvantages.
It’s believed that TV comprises everything in every corner of the world, including plenty of meaningful and educational programs. They help children increase their knowledge and expand their horizons .Children’s mind, as a piece of blank paper, is easily to be filled with different colorful stuff. Other than everything they learnt from schools, they are able to accept something new and fresh that can’t be acquired from books. In addition, it is important to cultivate children’s curiosity and inspiration. Through watching TV, children start thinking what they see and hear. As is known, children’s minds are childish but extremely active. Once they realize something they don’t completely understand, they couldn’t stop asking questions either to themselves and the people around them. These factors are necessarily vital factors in favor of children’s development.
However, it’s admitted that there are some disadvantages affecting children’s development from watching TV. Children sometimes are out of control. At this stage, they don’t know how to manage the time properly. Physical exercises and schoolwork are ignored as result of focusing too much on TV. Moreover, a increasing number of TV shows in which violence and sex are involved appear day after day. Children couldn’t differentiate good from bad since they don’t have a mature judgement. These terrible contents will lead children to a wrong direction and more seriously, a crime in their future life. For instance, a child at 10 killed his classmate by simply imitating the violence from a canton. Some researches also indicate that the crimes of children relating to TV violence are surprisingly increasing.
Despite some drawbacks in watching TV, children gain a lot more advantages from it as long as they are leaded towards a correct path. Parents have to pay sufficient attention to their children while watching TV and tell them what they are supposed to learn and which way they should go. Under this circumstance, unfavorable information from TV would not be able to corrupt children’s mind and watching TV can be ideally helpful to make children developed.
