Dear Sweatea,
I think your feelings are shared by many foreign language
students. It's a challenge to find a partner, and often your
friends aren't as excited about practicing as you are.
First of all, I think your "English Day" is a great idea. Try to
stick with it. As far as your difficulty finding someone to
practice with, all I can say is "keep trying". Many students find
it difficult to have a good friend as an "English partner", because
they are so used to speaking Chinese to each other that it feels very
awkward to communicate in English. So often the best partner is
someone who you don't know terribly well, but who is also very excited
to learn English.
One very good place to find a partner is at an English corner.
For all of its faults, an English corner is a great place to meet an
English partner. Talk to several people, find someone who has a
level that is close to your own, and then ask if they'd like to be your
partner. Perhaps you could meet for an hour or two every week.
Learning English is not easy, and neither is finding a partner, but both can be very rewarding in the long run.
