You may drive in Queensland if you hold a valid (current) foreign driver licence (a licence to drive a motor vehicle issued to you in your home country). You are allowed to drive any class of motor vehicle authorised under that licence. You must have your foreign driver licence with you at all times when you are driving and produce the licence for inspection by a police officer when requested to do so. If the licence is in a language other than English, you should carry an English translation of the licence or an International Driving Permit with you as well. This will ensure your licence details are readily identifiable should you be required to produce your licence. You will need to apply for an International Driving Permit in your home country before you come to Australia.
Remember the driving rules: Queensland is very safety conscious regarding road rules. There are penalties if you breach the rules. Do not exceed the speed limit. Wear your seat belt in a car at all times. Do not drive if you have been drinking alcohol or are affected by drugs. Do not drive if you are tired. A Queensland Transport brochure with some handy hints on Queensland road rules and conditions is included in your orientation package.
