In modern society, the police in majority of countries carry guns when they are at work. However, the police in UK don’t. Apparently, the argument that whether the policemen should carry guns has been brought into public focus.

Some people argue that residents could not be well-protected if the police are not armed. On one hand, the gun can play a significant part in frightening those people who tend to create violent events. In terms of this aspect, potential violence rate will be reduced. On another hand, police with guns can control and defeat the offenders as soon as possible. On the contrary, citizens will be exposed to armed violent criminals if the police can’t take efforts to catch them efficiently.

Meanwhile, it is acknowledged by other people that overall violent is possible to increase when the police carry guns. In the first place, some inefficient police may abuse there privilege, that is carrying guns, is an astonishing phenomenon. In the second place, sometimes quite a few cases don’t need to be solved by the gun. Conversely, police with guns may punish the criminals excessively. As a result, the condition that guns are not used properly will create more violent affairs. Hence it is better for the police not to carry guns.

Judging from all the evidence offered, both of them have something right. However, personally speaking, I approve of the latter view. As a military force of a country, the police should be armed with guns to ensure citizens’ safety. In addition, the use of guns must be conducted and supervised by government an residents.
